The Grandview boys' basketball team poses with its student section after winning the 5A state championship on Saturday, March 10.

The boys didn't want to be left out of the party. Just hours after the girls' basketball team won its second straight championship, Grandview boys' hoops won its FIRST state title in school history, beating George Washington, 57-52. Enjoy the two-part celebration, Wolves.

Grandview continued its improbable run in the 5A state tournament with an impressive second half, where the Wolves outscored the Patriots by eight points to pull away and hold on for the championship.

Dayne Prim led the way with a game-high 20 points, dominating inside the paint from start to finish. Ben Boone tacked on 13 points, and Calib McGil added 12--including an enormous And-1 layup with 1:39 to go that put the Wolves ahead by 4.

After some late free throws, it was a wrap--as both the girls and boys teams celebrated at center court on a night that no one at the school will ever forget.

Meanwhile, for George Washington, a second consecutive great season ends in the state title game. The Patriots lost to Eaglecrest in the 5A boys' final last year, and couldn't overcome Grandview in 2018 despite a furious comeback in the final minutes.

Jon'il Fugett turned in a spirited performance with 16 points for his team, but it wasn't quite enough against a stifling Wolves defense.

Grandview came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed, and had to get past No. 3 Chaparral, No. 2 ThunderRidge and finally No. 5 GW on its way to the crown.

In the end, it might have been the first state title in program history. But, it was the second of the night for the undisputed king and queen of Colorado basketball--Grandview High School.
