A large wildfire burned on Fort Carson land Friday morning.

The Carson Midway fire that burned about 3,300 acres is now 100 percent contained, according to an update from Fort Carson staff Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews are still on scene working to attack hot spots in the fire zone.

Evacuations were ordered Friday for people who live in the Midway Ranch area after the wildfire spread beyond the Fort Carson base Friday morning. As of Sunday morning, only a few home remain evacuated near the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point.

The fire moved to an area south of Fountain late Friday morning, destroying three homes, multiple outbuildings and quite a few vehicles, deputies said.

About 60 firefighters from various agencies battled the fire.

Both El Paso and Pueblo counties sent assessment staff Saturday afternoon to the burned areas to get a damage assessment.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says about 69 homes and 100 people were evacuated.

A large animal shelter was set up at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. They're being accepted at the Land of Ahz at 12599 Jordan Road in Fountain.

Small animals are being sheltered at the Pueblo Humane Society at 4600 Eagleridge Boulevard.

Authorities say no donations are needed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
